Good Faith Estimate

Your right to a Good Faith Estimate

Under the federal No Surprises Act, you have the right to know what your care will cost before you receive it.

If you do not have insurance, or you have insurance but choose not to use it, you are entitled to a written Good Faith Estimate of what your therapy is expected to cost. The estimate covers the total expected charges for the services you are scheduling, and for any reasonably expected related services.

What we do. Northlight Counseling provides a written Good Faith Estimate to every self-pay client before the first session, and again whenever fees or the plan of care change. You can also ask for one at any time before scheduling, and we will provide it within the timeframes the law requires.

Our current self-pay rate is $150 per 60-minute individual session. Because therapy is ongoing and its length depends on your goals and progress, the estimate will state the expected number of sessions over a set period and will be updated as things change.

Keep your estimate. Save a copy or a photo of it. If you are billed for substantially more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.

Disputing a bill. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can start a patient-provider dispute resolution process with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services within 120 calendar days of the date on the bill. There is a fee to use the process. Starting a dispute will not affect the quality of care you receive.
